If it’s possible to make waves on the ice, that’s exactly what these two skaters are doing.
2008 U.S. Pair Champions Keauna McLaughlin, 15, and Rockne Brubaker, 21, will be making a guest appearance for the Smucker’s Stars on Ice show LIVE and in Color in Denver on February 13 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
McLaughlin and Brubaker live and train in Colorado Springs and have been skating together for just two years. Last year, they finished first in every event they skated in and their ultimate goal is to be the first American team to win the Olympics. The World Championships come next though, as soon as McLaughlin is old enough. She turned 15 in September and will have to wait until next year to compete.
All eyes are on the pair as they continue to turn heads with the harmony, speed and grace of world-class athletes. Beyond the athleticism of their skating is the passion and emotion that they share with the audience. McLaughlin and Brubaker are an undeniably powerful duo that shouldn’t be missed as they skate their way to the top.
McLaughlin started skating at age three because her mother skated in shows and she “thought it was cool.” She currently holds three medals she won at the U.S. Championships and U.S. Junior Championships and believes her intensity is what sets her apart from others.
Brubaker began skating at age five because his mom couldn’t get a refund from the learn-to-skate program after he changed his mind about wanting to skate. He is an ambitious athlete and skated with two bulging discs last season. Brubaker and former partner Mariel Miller were the 2005 U.S. Junior Pairs Champions.
