Biography
Passion, precision and elegance are all words that describe Olympic Gold Medalists, five-time U.S. Champions, and two-time and reigning World Champions, Madison Chock and Evan Bates. The newly-married U.S. ice dancers have skated together for more than a decade but still find inspiration in their craft.
Madi and Evan have skated together since 2011 and have accomplished nearly everything there is to achieve in the sport: Olympic gold, U.S. and world titles. In December 2024, they clinched their second consecutive Grand Prix Final ice dance crown.
Thus far, Madi, 32, and Evan, 35, have represented the United States with a historic three Olympic Winter Games together and the fourth for Evan making him the first U.S. skater in any discipline to compete in four Winter Olympics.
At the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, Madi and Evan performed a clutch free dance in the Team Event helping Team USA win Gold. At a special victory ceremony at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Madi and Evan along with their fellow team members were awarded their long-awaited Gold Medals.
"We've been skating together for 13 years now," Evan told People at the Team USA house in Paris. "We've known each other for 18 years. This is my best friend, my partner on the ice and off the ice. And growing up, this is what every figure skater dreams of, is winning an Olympic gold medal."
Since July 2019, Madi and Evan have trained at the Ice Academy Montreal under Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon. The competitive environment training alongside the top ice dancers in the world pushes them to excel. They were featured in the Olympic Channel documentary, On Edge, about their 2022 Olympic journey.
When they are not training, Madi and Evan often can be found walking their toy poodles, Henry and Stella, to local farmers’ market or cafés in Montreal. Evan enjoys playing guitar, golf and following University of Michigan sports. Evan is the 52nd member of his father’s side of the family to attend the university. He is a member of the ISU Athletes Commission. Madi, who has taken art classes and has a passion for fashion, designs the couple’s skating costumes with Montreal-based costume designer, Mathieu Caron. Madi started a namesake company offering her design services to other skaters.
“I’m very excited the Olympics will be in Milan, which is a great city for fashion,” said Madi in a recent New York Times interview. “Going into the Olympics, I’m very inspired by Italian designers.”

In June of 2024, Madi and Evan got married in a romantic seaside wedding in Hawaii.
This Spring, Madi and Evan look forward to performing again in Stars on Ice Japan and the U.S.
They are aiming for double gold at Milano Cortina 2026 as their passion for the sport of figure skating still burns bright!
