Biography

Max Aaron was born in Scottsdale, Arizona and began playing hockey at the age of three when his cousins decided to skate for fun in Michigan. “I remember the first time skating. I fell in love with it from the beginning. I loved how challenging it was to find my balance and keep up with my older cousins. From there I was hooked."

Max played competitive hockey from the age of 3 until 16. He played at the AAA level from squirt through midget and, as a 14-year old, was named to the USA Developmental Team. Max competed in both sports from the age of 9, when he first began figure skating, until age 16, when he fractured his back. Max was off the ice for a year due to his injury. Following months of therapy, Max decided to focus all of his attention on one sport after being told by is grandfather, “You can be good at two sports, but why not be great at one?”

After a disappointing season in 2012 where he finished eighth at his first Senior U.S. Championships, Max almost walked away from the sport after hearing and being told that he would never become a champion nor would he fit in. With his determination to prove those naysayers wrong, and wanting desperately to have two amazing skates when his parents and grandparents were watching, he decided to throw everything he had at the next season. Leaving no stone unturned, he went for it all. Max became the 2013 U.S. Champion and made his first appearance at the World Championships where he finished seventh.

Most recently, Max finished third at the 2014 U.S. Championships in Boston, narrowly missing the 2014 Olympic team. Although he served as the first alternate to the team, Max was selected for the 2014 World Team where he will make his second World Championship appearance.

Max has a younger sister, Madeline Aaron, who, with her partner Max Settlage, is the 2011 Novice Pair Champion and 2014 Junior Pair Champion. Max also has an older sister, Molly, who compete in pairs internationally.
